Kyrgyz Lakes


As Kyrgyzstan is located in the very mountains during the tour in the country you are free to make a witness of various lakes. We have estimated and found out that there are about 2000 lakes in the country and most of them are on a freeway to be visited by all travelling in Kyrgyzstan. Most of the lakes are located at high altitudes - approximately 2500 and 4000 m above sea level. Issyk Kul - is the most visited lake by all who travel in Kyrgyzstan at the altitude of 1600m above sea level. The lake is seen as the pearl of the country and seems to be one of the most picturesque places. In the course of a tour in Kyrgyzstan you will find out that the lake never freezes due to the high percent of salt in it. The lake is the second largest high altitude lake after lake Titicaca in South America. And of course during tours in Kyrgyzstan rented car you will be given a good amount of legends of the country, its sites and significant places. We would like to inform you that one of the legends of the emergence of the lake is as follows - there was the ancient town which ruins may be found on the bottom of the lake. After the earthquake the town was taken under the earth with the water filling the crack.

Son Kul - is the second most visited lake in Kyrgyzstan. It is seen as one of the most amazing and stunning lakes in the entire country. Those who travel in Kyrgyzstan at the altitude of 3016m above sea level usually notice that winds are severely, it may be colder due to the height. The lake may be visited only from June to September as during the rest of the time this territory is covered with snow.

Chayr Kul - is the lake which may be visited at the altitude of 3530m above sea level. It may be visited when you start a tour near the place of the river being fed from the Kok Aygyr river. The lake is fishless.

The Merzbacher lakes are seen as the mystery by all who travel in Kyrgyzstan. The lakes are located in the very mountains and they appear and disappear every summer.

Sary Chelek lake is the one which seems to be the flooded valley and is impossible to be passed by travelers in Kyrgyzstan. We have to admit that it is the territory of National Park and no one can start tours there.
